Mothusi Chilume, MD

Saint George's University, MD
Luther College, Iowa, BA

I was born and raised in Gaborone, Botswana and completed primary and secondary school in Gaborone.  After a brief semester in law school at the University of Botswana, I decided that a career in medicine was my true calling. Thereafter, I attended college in Decorah, Iowa where I majored in Psychobiology, minored in Africana Studies, and completed my pre-medical requirements. I then moved to Grenada for the first 2 years of medical school at St. George’s University School of Med.  I completed my clinical training as a medical student in hospitals in the U.S. and the UK. After all this traveling I decided that it was time to return home to Botswana upon graduation from medical school.  For the past 3 years I have been working in Botswana, where I have seen first hand how well-trained family physicians can make a huge difference in the delivery of health care to those who most need it. I have a 10 year old daughter, Faith, who lives in Atlanta and my girlfriend, Michelle, will be in Boston doing her Internal Medicine Residency. In between all the work and traveling that I will be doing, I hope to explore the beautiful area of Lancaster.  When I finish residency I would like to do an MBA in Health Care Management before returning to work in the developing world.

Elizabeth "Ebb" Cius, MD

Georgetown University School of Medicine, MD
Messiah College

Everyone calls me Ebb.  I am a big city girl—I was born and raised on the upper west side of Manhattan, completed my undergraduate education at the University of Chicago, and have just graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.  My recent real estate portfolio has included a series of studio apartments which I can walk across in 10 feet or less.  That being said, I have to admit that I’m anxious and excited to start a new chapter of my life as a smaller city girl, a doctor, and a homeowner!  I am drawn to family medicine because of the opportunities it provides to care for the entire patient and because of the amazing physicians in the field that inspired me to join the ranks.  Some of my favorite things include eating good food with good friends, practicing yoga, and watching cheesy chick flicks.

Joanna I. Czaikcki, MD

Jagiellonian University School of Medicine, Krakow, Poland, MD
Loyola University, BS

My family emigrated from Poland to the United States when I was in elementary school.  We lived in Chicago, and although I enjoyed being from the Midwest, I also loved to travel and wanted to move away for college.  I attended Loyola University in New Orleans, where I majored in Biology and Spanish. I always knew that I wanted to study Medicine, and because of my Polish roots and my love of travel, I decided to take the opportunity to study in one of the oldest universities in the world, Jagiellonian University in Krakow. When I first started my clinical rotations, I hoped to find one area of medicine that would really stand out and grab my interest. Little did I know that I would be passionate about most aspects of my education. I decided to specialize in Family Medicine, because it really does focus on the patient as a whole. I will have the opportunity to utilize all my knowledge, and most importantly, build strong and lasting relationships with my patients and their families. I am looking forward to my move to Pennsylvania and to working in Lancaster General Hospital. My fiancé’ is starting his anesthesia residency in Hershey, so we are very excited to finally begin our new life together in Lancaster.

Danielle J. D'Avolio, MD

Drexel University College of Medicine, MD
Brandeis University, BA

Born and raised in Boston, I stayed local to study Spanish Language and Literature at Brandeis Univ. I then moved to NYC where I worked as a domestic violence advocate and counselor in the South Bronx. After a year off, I continued my journey down the east coast to attend Drexel Med in Philly. It wasn’t until my fourth year of medical school that I realized my personal commitment to care for folks over time and the wonderful opportunities in Family Medicine to both prevent and treat disease. I am ecstatic to be training in the best field of medicine, and though I have never lived in a city this small or a region this rural, I feel truly blessed to be a member of the Lancaster General residency family! When I’m not at the hospital, you might find me rooting for the Red Sox, reading, dancing ballet, out to dinner, watching foreign films, or exploring the new city I call home.

Richard I. Grunden, MD

Hershey Medical Center, PSU, MD
Pennsylvania State University, BS

I grew up in Hershey, PA and I met my wonderful wife within Campus Crusade for Christ at Penn State where I was a plant biology major in undergrad.  We then returned to Hershey so that I could attend the Penn State University College of Medicine.  I look forward to being a family physician due to the long-term relationships I will build with my patients and being able to help people in every stage of life.  The things I most enjoy are good  conversation, soccer, studying the Bible, spending time with my beloved, and spending time outdoors.  I have also begun to dabble in photography and woodworking, and am curious to see where those interests head.

Yale University, MD

I grew up in Sykesville, Maryland about 45 minutes outside of Baltimore.  I completed my undergraduate education at Yale University where I majored in Biology and I graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.  I chose to pursue Family Medicine because of the strong emphasis on continuity of care and the ability to care for patients of all ages.  I am excited about living in Lancaster and enjoying all the outdoor activities.

Carla Rose Henke, MD

University of Buffalo School of Medicine, MD
Cornell University, BS

I grew up in Marilla, NY, a small, rural town east of Buffalo.  I then traveled east down I-90 to complete college at Cornell University where I majored in Human Development and enjoyed all that the eclectic town of Ithaca had to offer.  After graduating, I returned to western NY where I began medical school and was inspired to become a family physician.  I am excited to begin my career at Lancaster General Hospital and pursue my interests in international healthcare and the underserved.  I love to travel, spend time outdoors, go out to dinner, and very much enjoy the performing arts.

Rebecca A. McAfeer, MD

New York Medical College, MD
College of William and Mary, BS

I was born and raised in White Plains, New York (just north of NYC) with my parents and younger sister, Jessica.  After high school I went to the College of William and Mary in Virginia, majoring in Biology and thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  I then went straight to medical school at NYMC.  Initially I was interested in pediatrics, then neurology, but by third year clerkships I knew family medicine was the right field for me because  of its interesting, broad scope and the great focus it places on patient-centered care.  From personal experience I have developed a strong interest in palliative care medicine, and also enjoy maternal and child care — two aspects of medicine that I hope to incorporate into my practice.  I really enjoy distance running and being outdoors (hiking, camping, horseback riding), as well as fun, relaxed times shared with good friends.

Matthew R. Meunier, MD

University of Michigan Medical School, MD
Albion College, BA

I was born and raised in Jackson, Michigan. Being the son of two church musicians, both my faith and music have been important aspects of my whole life. I’ve continued to play my violin and/or sing in a variety of  vocal ensembles through all of my schooling.  I went to Albion College, a small liberal arts college in Albion, MI, where I majored in Biochemistry. I then went on to the Univ. of Michigan where I graduated from Medical School.  As the first doctor in my family, most of my interaction with medicine has been through my Family Doc, and so I was interested in primary care from the very beginning of medical school.  That interest continued as I became involved in my school’s Family Medicine Interest Group where one of my mentors, a former graduate of Lancaster’s Residency Program suggested that I look into Lancaster General Hospital.  I’m very excited to start my Family Medicine training in Lancaster where I look forward to pursuing my interests in behavioral health, OB, adolescent medicine, and procedures. Outside of the hospital I plan to continue my interests in music, movies, cooking, and everything that Lancaster has to offer.

Stacey Lynn Milunic, MD

Case Western Reserve University SOM, MD
Pennsylvania State University, BS

I grew up in Hampton Township, which is in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA.  I went to Penn State for my undergraduate degree, where I was a Math major.  While there, I spent a lot of time singing in Grace Notes, a Christian a-capella group, and I met my husband Michael.  From Penn State I headed out to Case Western Reserve University SOM in Cleveland, OH.  My husband and I were married after 3rd year, and right before graduation, our son Matthew arrived!  I spent this past year being a stay-at-home mom and acting as a preceptor for  1st and 2nd year students at Case.  I chose Family Medicine because my favorite part of medicine has been getting to know my patients.  (And also because I like kids too much to not have them as patients.)  My husband and I were involved in our church in Cleveland and are looking forward to getting involved with one here.  We also enjoy outdoor activities, especially kid-friendly ones.  A few of my other favorite things are running, singing, chocolate and coffee.

M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, India, MD
M.S. Ramaiah Medical College

I was born and raised in Bangalore, the ‘garden city’ of India.  I graduated from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College in Bangalore.  After graduation, I got married and followed my husband to Colorado.  I did an observership in Family Medicine in Colorado.  This wonderful experience coupled with my inclination towards preventive and holistic medicine drew me closer to Family medicine.  My husband and I are very excited about our move from the Rockies to the Appalachian.  I spend my spare time hiking, learning Indian classical music, reading non-medical books, jogging, painting, doing embroidery and soon wish to add gardening to the list.

David T. O'Gurek, MD

Penn State College of Medicine, MD
Saint Joseph's University, BS

I grew up in Summit Hill, a small town in the coal regions of Northeastern Pennsylvania without a single stoplight.  A die-hard Philadelphia sports fan, I spent four great years in Philadelphia where I completed my undergraduate education at Saint Joseph’s University majoring in Biology.  I graduated from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, where I immersed myself in all things Family Medicine.  I am very excited to be bringing my passion for Family Medicine into the rich tradition that exists at Lancaster General.  My professional interests include preventive care, geriatrics, and palliative care.  Outside of medicine, I enjoy movies, music, spending time with friends and family, eating Italian food and of course, cheering for my Hawks, Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers.

Jacqueline L. Rohrer, MD

McGill University Faculty SOM, MD
Boston College, BS

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, I am familiar with life in a small city surrounded by beautiful countryside, so joining the team at Lancaster feels like a return to my roots! For my education, I sought adventures beyond my hometown, and ventured far from Ohio to explore some incredible cities. Boston served as my home for six years; in 2002 I graduated from Boston College with a bachelor degree in biology and afterwards worked at Massachusetts General Hospital. I then moved to the diverse city of Montreal, Quebec to attend medical school at McGill University. Inspired by the broad practice of family medicine in rural Canada, I am passionate about serving as a comprehensive family physician, able to provide care from obstetrics and pediatrics to palliative care. I also have an interest in international health, and previously worked for five months at a hospital in the West African country of Cameroon. My husband Jason and I are newly married, and we are thrilled to explore the Lancaster area for the best hiking and camping spots. In my free time, I enjoy running, knitting and crochet, reading, and cooking dinners in my crock pot.
