Lancaster General Hospital is proud to have offered one of the first Family Medicine Residency programs in America. It remains one of the most respected and exciting programs in the country. For more than 35 years, the Lancaster General Family Medicine Residency program has attracted some of the country’s most talented medical school graduates. This excellence is evidenced by the fact that Lancaster General Health had produced more AAFP/Bristol-Myers Squibb Awards (Formally AAFP/Mead Johnson Award) than any other residency program since the inception of the specialty of family medicine.
Lancaster General Health takes great pride in valuing family practice physicians as medical specialists. Twenty full-time faculty members, more than 750 active staff physicians specializing in the full range of disciplines, and state-of-the-art facilities have created one of the premier educational opportunities available for physicians focusing on family medicine.
Since its start in 1893 as a nonsectarian general hospital, Lancaster General Health has grown to be a significant leader in community (which is urban, rural and demographically and ethnically diverse) and in the field of healthcare services and education. Lancaster General Hospital has been honored for 10 of the past 13 years as one of the top 100 hospitals in the U.S< In July of 2005, U.S. News and World Report named it one of the top 50 hospitals in Ear, Nose & Throat, Heart & Heart Surgery, Hormonal Disorders, Orthopedics and Urology.
There is a commitment to excellence in the people at the Lancaster General Family Medicine Residency that makes this program extraordinary. This characteristic permeates the culture of our program and institution. As a result, our clinical team goes the "extra mile" for our patients, our educational team assures that our residents receive a top-notch educational experience and our residents make major contributions to the patients and communities they serve. Our resident graduates take this philosophy with them and improve the health and well being of their new communities.
Enjoy your journey of discovery as you make your way through our program’s web site. I hope it will stimulate further questions and interest in our program. I would be delighted to continue this dialogue either by electronic means or, even better, in person!
